NOTES FOR JOSEPH BURDETT: Joseph Burdett purchased 40 acres of land in 1853 in DavisCounty, Iowa and entered it in the abstract of land records at the Bloomfield Iowa Court House. 1856 census of Marion Township, Davis County, Iowa. JosephBurdett 29 VA farmer 2 years in Iowa, Rachel Burdett 23 OH, David S Burdett 5 OH, William S Burdett 2 IA, ----- Burdett female IA. On August 29, 1856, Joseph Burdett purchased "Ten acres off ofthe west side (running the width of the 40 acres) of the south east quarter of the south west quarter of section No. 10 in township No. 70 of range No. 14, and warrant the title against all persons whomsoever." from George and Emily Nixon, residents of Wappello County. In probate records, box 6, in the Bloomfield Iowa Court House:Rachel Burdett appointed Jonathan Cohagan the administrator of the estate of Joseph Burdett who died on 9 September 1857. He was appointed on 17 October 1857. The appraisement of the personal property of Joseph Burdettdeceased by Joseph Roberts, valentine Brown and Abner Roberts on 21 October 1857 and recorded in probate records of Joseph Burdett in Davis County, Bloomfield, Iowa Court House: 1 wagon $25.00, 1 yoke of 3 year old steers $72.50, 1 heifer calf $5.00, 1 rifle gun $17.00, 4 sheep $8.00, 1 cradle and scythe $2.25, 1 hand saw $1.50. A sale was held on 31 October 1857 and the following was recordedby D. L. Hannah, Clerk: hand saw $7.05, cradle & syth $1.05, caff $6.56, work oxen $40.30, 2 sheep $4.01, plow $6.00, brake $.25, rifel gunn $14.00 (purchased by John Burdett, probably his brother).
