McCONNELSVILLE WEEKLY HERALD, MARCH 24, 1921 William Spencer, on of the towns oldest residents passed awayMonday morning after a weeks illness from heart trouble. He was 92 years old last November and had been in feeble health for some time past from the infirmities of advanced age. Mr. Spencer came to McConnelsville about 15 years ago from theRural Dale neighborhood. He spent most of his life in Morgan County on the farm and was born and raised in Meigsville Township on what is now the William Johnson place. He was twice married, his first wife being Mary Young, who died some 45 years since. Issue of the first marriage surviving are Mrs. Oliver Anderson of this village, Mrs. Frank Bennett of Zanesville, Albert of Zanesville and John and Converse Spencer of Neelyville. Descendents second wife was Sarah Newsom, sister of the late John Newsom of Neelyville, who survives. Children surviving by there marriage are Mrs. Mame Rox of McConnelsville, Mrs. C. V. Richardson of Zanesville and two sons, Jesse of East Bloom and Wesley of Bristol Township. The late Nathan Spencer of Meigsville who was killed a few years since was a brother. Mr. Spencer was a member of the M. E. church. The funeral was held yesterday from his late residence on FifthStreet in charge of Rev. A. A. Reavely. Interment in the McConnelsville Cemetery. MORGAN COUNTY DEMOCRAT, THURSDAY, 24 MARCH 1921 WILLIAM SPENCER DEAD Mr. William Spencer, highly regarded and lifelong residence ofMorgan County, passed away at his home here on North Fifth Street, Monday morning at 6:20. While he had been quite frail for several years his health had been fairly good this winter up to about a week ago when he was stricken with heart trouble which terminated in his death. Mr. Spencer was born in Meigsville Township. He was twice married, first to Mary Ann Young by this union he leaves five children, Con and John of Neeleysville, Mrs. Sarah Anderson of this place, Mrs. Lydia Bennett and Albert Spencer of Zanesville. His second marriage was to Miss. Sarah Newman who survives him, also four children, Mrs. Carrie Richardson Zanesville, Wesley Spencer of Bristol, Jesse of Bloom ;and Mrs. Mamie Rox of this place. He also leaves 22 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Mr. Spencers entire life was spent in Morgna County and for the past 11 years he has lived in the house where his death occurred. He was the last of his family his brother Nathan Spencer meet his death several years ago in a runaway on his farm. Mr. Spencer was a faithful member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Funeral services were held Wednesday at his late home conductedby his pastor, Rev. A. A. Rearley. Interment was made in the McConnelsville Cemetery among the many floral tributes was one of beautiful roses from the Smith Merchant farm of Marion with which Mr. Merchante is employed. Those here for the funeral included Mr. and Mrs. John Merchant and daughter Belle, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Huntsman and daughter all of Marion, Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Richardson, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bennett of Zanesville.
