16 JUNE 1855: LAND PURCHASED: Meigsville Township, Morgan County,Ohio
On the 16th of June 1855, Chalkley Harmer purchased land from theestate of John W. Gheen (died 30 January 1853) with Theoderick Lyne acting as administrator of the estate. The land was located in Meigsville Township, Morgan County, Ohio being in range 11 township 10 section 20. It was the NE quarter of the SW quarter and was 41 & 59/100's acres for which he paid six hundred dollars. Payments were to be 1/3 in 30 days, 1/3 in 9 months and 1/3 in 18 months plus interest. Recorded in volume Y, page 435.

1 NOVEMBER 1869: LAND SOLD: Meigsville Township, Morgan County, Ohio
On the 1st of November 1869 Chalkley and Elizabeth Harmer sold theabove purchased land to Samuel Fitch for nine hundred dollars cash. Chalkley and Elizabeth lived in Coal Run, Washington County, Ohio at the time they sold it. So far as I know they never owned any other land. Recorded in volume 16 page 566.

A team of horses belonging to Chalkley Harmer, of Malta Township, waskilled by lighting on Wednesday evening. He is a poor man and his horses were his principal property. The people ought to help him out. A suitable contribution from each one will not be felt.

THE DEATH OF CHALKLEY HARMER
Mr Chalkley Harmer, one of the salt of the earth, a man loved andrevered by all who knew him, passed away Thursday morning at his home near Stockport, his death occurring at 9:45 o'clock after months of suffering.
Mr Harmer was born September 1, 1832 and was therefore nearly 78years of age. His has been a life of hardship and toil but all who knew him know how he kept his life sweetened by an ever increasing faith in his master and a belief in the final reward of the righteous. His godly example, his patience in suffering, his tenderness and thoughtfulness for all, will be lift as a precious memory for all his children and all in the circle of his association. Mr. Harmer's wife was Elizabeth Young. They were the parents of eight children, seven of whom with the wife survive him. They are W.S. of Nashport, C.A. of Sheppard, Henry and George of Malta, Mrs. M.F. Benjamin of McConnelsville, Mrs. J.C. Whipple of Chesterland, Ohio and Mrs. A.R. Adren of Stockport. One brother, George, and one sister Mrs. Rebecca Wartenbee, of Pennsville, also survive him. The latter has devotedly attended him all through his illness.

DEATH OF MRS. HARMER
Mrs. Elizabeth Harmer, widow of the late Chalkley Harmer ofStockport, died Thursday morning at the home of her son Henry Harmer of Neelysville, where she had resided for the past two years, her death occurring about 8:00 o'clock.
Mrs. Harmer was 84 years of age, and the last two years of herlife have been sad ones for her and her son Henry and wife who have so faithfully and tenderly cared for her in that period. She had been totally blind for the past two years. A year and a half ago she was stricken with paralysis since which time she had been bedfast and totally helpless. During all that time every possible care ad attention was given her and it was tender and affectionate care she received from this son and his wife and their children.
Mrs. Harmer's maiden name was Elizabeth Young, she being adaughter of the late William Young of ;Hooksburg. Her husband, Chalkley Harmer, died several years ago, and one son, George, is deceased. Six children survive, William of Zanesville, Bert of Worthington, Henry of Neelysville, Mrs. Ida Whipple of Chesterland near Cleveland, Mrs. Eva Adrean of Stockport and Mrs. belle Benjamin of McConnelsville.
